Let's imagine that you have a dual layer DVD that you would like to copy to a regular DVD disc. This can be done either by reducing the quality of the movie or by removing some of the extra features, audio tracks and subtitles available on the disc. This is not possible by using the Windows operating system alone, so the only thing left is to turn to additional software for this. In this case, you could use the DVD Shrink application. The program can shrink a video DVD either by reducing the video quality or by removing some extra features.

The installation wizard of DVD Shrink is not difficult to complete and the program's features speak for themselves, being intuitive and not needing a help file in order to be understood. After installing and running the program, the user will be presented with a graphical interface. Using the toolbar, he can import a video DVD or a DVD image into the program. DVD Shrink is compatible with virtually any DVD drive and even virtual DVD drives. After importing the desired movie into the program, it will automatically analyze the movie and after a couple of seconds, the user will see all the contents of the movie, including extras, subtitles and audio tracks.

Using a couple of clicks, one can remove certain extra features, like the director's comments or trailers, thus reducing the size of the DVD. He can also adjust the quality of the main movie by using a simple slider. While making all these adjustments, the size of the DVD will be updated in real time, allowing the user to clearly see if the movie will fit on a regular DVD or needs reducing even more.

The program's interface features a built-in player, which allows playing the main movie and all the included extras. This will allow the user to see what extra video should be removed. There is also a deep analysis mode available, which can take more time, but can produce more accurate results when displaying DVD contents.

After making all the necessary modifications, the DVD can be saved as an image file or as a video_ts folder. This folder or image file can be easily burnt to an optical disc using any burning software, for example, Nero.

Pros

It can reduce the size of any video DVD by removing some extra features or lowering the quality of the main movie. Besides that, the interface includes a built-in player, for previewing the loaded DVD. Furthermore, the program can import optical discs or image files.

Cons

The deep analysis can take a lot of time, especially if we are talking about a dual layer DVD disc. DVD Shrink allows you to reduce the size of any video DVD by lowering its quality or removing unwanted extras.
